The best thing that happened today was making a vow. I lack so much assertiveness where Doctors are concerned. I see on this blog that I was writing about being ill back on the 8th of this month. I'm still just as ill and am just being passed from pillar to post without much of anything changing. Today, after a doctor swept me under the carpet yet again, I have made a vow to from now on take no more crap. Next time I speak to them I'm getting this sorted and I'm not just gonna buckle and be spoken down to. Phew. Yes.

The best thing that happened today was being in the right place at the right time. I was getting my hair trimmed at my favourite pun-tastic Merrion Market hairdressers (£6, no appointment necessary) when this guy came in selling dvds. Having checked on the FACT website that it is not illegal to *buy* pirated dvds, I can now excitedly announce that I have a copy of Whip It!!! Get in.

The best thing that happened today was finally realising that my immune system was completely overloaded and so letting myself give it a helping hand in the shape of maxi doses of penicillin care of a lovely doctor who was clearly impressed by the ridiculous size of my tonsils!!
Maximum respect right now for Alexander Fleming!!

The best thing that happened today was getting a voicemail message from one of my best friends. She was talking so fast and excitedly that I couldn't make out a word of what she was saying - she was quite literally talking jibberish, but I knew from the high pitched squeal that it was the news we'd been waiting for and planning for for years. Before I'd caught my breath to call her back she'd also emailed me, sent a message to my facebook, and tried my home phone :) The news was plain and clear, and this time fully-confirmed: Courtney Love is playing the UK in February. I cannot under-estimate how important this is for the pair of us!

The best thing that happened today was realising that two long-out-of-print-and-thus-very-expensive-books that I've been umming and ahhing about buying second hand for the past couple of months are actually in the library at the University where I work. It's gonna mean a bit of shifty taking-them-out-on-my-boss's-library-card swindling, but it's going to save me a small fortune so is totally worth the deception!
Fingers crossed I don't *really* fall in love with the books (something that is quite likely) and decide that I *really* need my own copies...

The best thing that happened today was dismantling a broken, old fashioned telephone that I have had in my bedroom for years. I had always intended to circuit-bend it into a clock, but never got round to it. So today, I took it apart and stripped out the insides. The two bells that used to make the ringing sound have now been tied on to each end of a piece of ribbon and make a gorgeous chiming sound, which I am sure will come in useful at the next Peterboroughs performance, and the shell of the telephone, with the dial removed, can be used to plant something in for the spring!
